Need Your Appliances Fixed? What You Need To Know

Posted on: 26 March 2018

When your appliances break down, you don't have to throw them away. Instead, you can have your appliances repaired. Appliance repair companies can fix more than just your fridge or your oven. Many refrigerator repair companies can also fix smaller appliances, such as your toaster, your garbage disposal, or even your dishwasher.

#1. Find a Local Appliance Repair Company

There are numerous individuals who can fix your appliances. Pull out your phone book and look up the number for an appliance repair company, or search online. Many of these companies are smaller, local companies that specialize in appliance repairs. There are not a lot of national repair companies; however, in most areas you can find a local repair company that you can work with.

#2. Expect A Service Call Fee

When you have a service person come to your home, from an appliance repair person to a plumber or an electrician, you are going to be charged a service call fee. A service call fee covers the cost of the company sending an employee out to your home and the cost of diagnosing what is wrong with your appliance. The service fee is usually a flat fee, regardless of how far the technician has to drive to get to your home or how long it takes them to make the diagnosis of what is wrong with your appliance.

#3. Always Use A Licensed & Certified Company

When you call a repair company, ask what type of insurance they carry and if they are a licensed business. Any company that has liability insurance will not have a problem telling you who they have insurance through as well as how large their insurance policy is. They will also not have a probable sharing their state-issued business license with you. You only want to work with companies that are licensed and carry insurance. This shows you that the company is invested in themselves.

#4. You'll Need to Be Home

For appliance repair, as you will be letting someone into your home, you need to make sure that you are home. Most appliance repair companies require that an adult over the age of eighteen be present when they come to your home to do the repairs. That way, after they do their diagnostics, there is someone there with the authority to decide if the repair should be done, and there is someone there who can pay them.

#5. Have Payment Ready

Most appliance repair companies accept cash or checks, as well as major credit cards or debit cards that are backed up by a major credit card company. Make sure that you get a receipt, a statement that details the repairs that were provided, and the warranty policy for the repairs.
